Oui2026/11 - Modern Pipelines Under Pressure - Technical Decision-Making (Aleksander Kauch)
A hands-on course on technical decision-making for modern game production pipelines. Learn to identify bottlenecks, design around constraints, establish ownership, evaluate trade-offs, and evolve pipelines without sacrificing stability. The focus is not on specific tools, but on the reasoning behind robust technical and organisational decisions. Pipelines are where production quietly breaks down: bottlenecks, technical debt, unclear ownership. In a landscape reshaped by AI, cloud, automation and fast-evolving engines, this hands-on course teaches you to measure what really slows your teams, validate that a change answers a real need, and integrate it without sacrificing stability. No tool tutorials, just the reasoning behind robust, future-proof pipelines. Aleksander Kauch, Technical Director at 11 bit studios, shares the reasoning behind real production pipeline decisions, trade-offs included. From November 2nd to November 05th - 10:00am-12:00pm every day (CET Time) - Remote training (GR1) From November 9th to November 13th - 10:00am-12:00pm every day (CET Time) - Remote training (GR2)

Contenu de la formation
Session 1
- The Modern Game Production Pipeline - Introduction to the problem. Presenting the common issues with working pipelines
- Diagnosing Pipeline Bottlenecks - Common pipeline failures, root causes, and methods for evaluating their cost, and production impact.
- Prioritising Problems and Challenging Assumptions Ranking bottlenecks by impact and cost, distinguishing symptoms from root causes, and challenging prioritisation decisions.
- From Symptoms to Decisions - Distinguishing technical problems from organisational issues and identifying what kind of actions can help
Session 2
- Understanding Platform Constraints How platform requirements affect game architecture and production pipelines.
- Strategies and Tools for Platform Adaptation Approaches to adapting a game for different platforms, including configuration management, asset variants, scalability settings, conditional compilation, automated platform-specific builds and tests, and crash reporting.
- Designing a Pipeline Around a Lead Platform Applying platform constraints and adaptation strategies to a concrete production scenario.
- Stress-Testing and Extending the Design Evaluating the cost of adding a second platform.
- Review and Key Takeaways Comparing designs and identifying principles that apply across platforms, as well as decisions that depend on specific production constraints.
Session 3
- CI/CD and the Game Development Toolchain The role of continuous integration and delivery in game production.
- Diagnosing Toolchain and Workflow Bottlenecks How to investigate slow or unreliable pipelines, distinguish infrastructure limitations from workflow problems, and identify the causes of repeated failures.
- Leadership Decisions That Block Production How technical leadership and team organisation affect pipeline performance.
- Changing the Workflow, Not Just the Tools Practical interventions for improving pipeline performance through changes to team practices and technical leadership.
- From Intervention to Sustainable Improvement How to verify that changes improve production rather than move the bottleneck elsewhere.
Session 4
- Technical Trade-Offs In-house or bought tech, modularity, stability and flexibility, refactors and deadlines
- Investment, Automation and Risk Management Distributed build execution, automated QA, AI (LLM), evaluating new technologies against production needs.
- Defending a Production Decision Evaluating competing technical strategies, exposing assumptions, defending accepted risks, and identifying evidence that could change a decision.
- Building a Pipeline Evolution Roadmap Prioritising improvements, planning quick wins and medium-term investments, assigning ownership, and defining measurable success criteria.
Équipe pédagogique
Suivi de l'exécution et évaluation des résultats
- Initial and final self assessment form (10 min each)
- Initial and final skill evaluation form (10 min each)
Ressources techniques et pédagogiques
- Participants are welcomed into a dedicated virtual training room accessible via video conferencing, ensuring a consistent and interactive learning environment throughout the session. Training content is shared on-screen in real time, combining theoretical presentations with practical case studies to reinforce understanding through applied examples. Interactive exchanges and Q&A moments are encouraged throughout to support engagement at a distance. All training materials are made available online following the session, allowing participants to revisit key concepts and consolidate their learning at their own pace.
