An entertaining, informative, and emotionally engaging trailer is essential for making a game stand out and attracting its audience. In this workshop (one-hour joint presentation with Chris Zukowski), you will learn frameworks and strategies for how to best make a trailer for a game based on its strengths, weaknesses, and your marketing goals. Derek Lieu has helped make nearly 200 trailers for games including: Half-Life Alyx, Sifu, Psychonauts 2, Dead Cells, Among Us, Firewatch, Riven, Subnautica, and Spelunky 2. Teaching team

Derek Lieu is a game trailer producer from Boston, MA who over the course of 10+ years independently helped make over 100 trailers for games including: Among Us, Half-Life: Alyx, Psychonauts 2, Firewatch, Spelunky 2, The Long Dark, Noita, Dead Cells, Subnautica, Ooblets, Stray Gods, and more. For years he’s shared his game trailer making expertise via industry talks, a weekly newsletter, YouTube videos, an online course, and more. Previously, he studied film production at NYU, worked as an assistant at the prestigious movie trailer house Giaronomo Productions in New York City and as an editor for AAA games at Hammer Creative in Los Angeles. He currently resides in New Jersey with his partner and their two cats Uni and Ebi.
